It's knowing what goes where and at what time. We break up the project into parts so we have better markers on when things should be done. It keeps the process simple and easier to find troublemakers.
Let's say you have a tradeshow where you need 20' x 10' booth design, an ad for the program, a bag insert for the room drop, literature to pass out at the booth, seminar giveaway flyers to pass out during the breaks and cocktail parties. This sounds complex but actually it is quite simple when you break it up into time stages. After you forecast which part is time-sensitive then those get priority. Once tasks are finish, the check list gets smaller until the project is completed. The client can add or delete parts depending on budget or direction change at a moment's notice.
